Chapter Two
Cassie

Everything was pitch black. There was no light to be seen anywhere. I could hear voices; they were talking softly as if they did not want me to hear what they were saying. I tried harder to hear what they were saying and I could tell that whatever they were talking about was very serious.
"She's too weak to do anything yet." Said a male voice, which oddly sounded very familiar. "The doctor says that she won't remember very much, that it would be a miracle if she could remember any of us at all…" His voice drifted off on a sad note. I heard something bang against what must have been a wall. It made me jump on the inside but for some reason my body would not respond.
"Damn, sorry, it's just that if she can't remember anything it's going to be a lot harder to keep her safe. And it's going to be very confusing when she has to learn all over again about what she is…who we all are." Said another male voice. This voice sends a slight shiver through me and my heart started to beat faster with every word he said.
I start to hear this high pitched beeping get faster and faster. My eyes fly open and I'm blinded by the sudden flash of white light. I blink several times to try and regain my sight. After a few moments of trying I am finally able to see. The door to the room opens suddenly and a man dressed in a doctor's uniform comes in. He leans over my bed and tires to calm me down; at the time I did not know what he was trying to do till I noticed that it was me that was making the heart monitor beep so fast.
"Cassie, Cassie! Calm down your fine nothing is going to hurt you." He said in a soothing voice. I force myself to take deep breaths and try to calm myself down. After a few minutes of listening to his voice and breathing slowly the beeping on the monitor goes down.
"Cassie, I'm Dr. Vincent. Do you know why you're here?" He asked.
I try and think about how I ended up in a hospital bed, but nothing came to mind.
"No, no I don't." I said but I had to repeat myself because my voice was horse. He nodded and frowned. Then he went back out of the room without saying anything else.
I could hear voices whispering outside the door. Later a boy, a teenager walks into the room. He has longish hair that covers one eye; his eyes are a piercing ice blue. He's wearing all black which complements his tan skin. I recognize him instantly.
"Caden!" I said my voice cracking. He paused and a look of shock was his expression. He practically ran towards my bed and gave me a suffocating bear hug.
"Cassie! You remember me?!" He said completely shocked that I could possibly remember who he was.
"Of course I remember you!" I said tears started to roll down my face. "How could I ever forget my own twin brother?" I hugged him back with all the strength that I had, which wasn't much. He pulled back and looked at me. He was crying to.
"I thought- the doctor said that there was a chance that you wouldn't remember anything. So I didn't know if you'd remember me or not." He said a look of pain crossed his face but was then replaced with a smile as he hugged me again. "I'm so glad you do though. Do you remember anything else?" He said cautiously.
"I-I remember umm, what we, uh are. Or is that just my imagination playing tricks on me?" I said confused. At this he smiles and turns so that his back is towards me. He takes my hand and places it in-between his shoulder blade and his spine. Under his shirt I could feel the elevation that was his wing; the same was on the other side. He turned around and smiled.
"It's not your imagination silly; it's very much real…" He said. His voice drifted off as if he were trying to speak carefully. I give him a confused glance and he just smiles. He then stands back up and goes back to the door. Over his shoulder I could see another teenage boy. When I saw him my heart jolted painfully in my chest. That blond hair and those-those blue eyes. They all seemed so familiar even though I knew that I did not know him nor had no memory of him. He looked over Caden's shoulder and met my gaze. In his eyes there was a look of pain and happiness at the same time. The pain that was shown there in his eyes made my heart hurt even more than it already did. With every second that we spent staring at each other my heart beat faster and faster making it almost impossible to breath. The heart monitor started going crazy. Caden looked back, saw me and ran towards the bed leaving the boy standing there looking petrified. He made a move to come in but then stopped when Caden yelled at him to get out. The boy looked hurt but did as Caden told him.
"Cassie, Cassie!" He yelled while shaking me and trying to get me to focus on him. I forced myself to look away from the boy at the door back to my brother. He calmed me down a little bit but pain in my chest was so excruciating that the world around me slowly began to fade. He pressed the call button for the doctor and then timidly left me not knowing if I'd be okay or not. He went towards the door and looked back several times before he opened it again. I caught a glimpse of the boy again and my brothers efforts of calming me down shattered once our eyes met again. Caden made a move to push the boy away from the door but he resisted until Caden said "Ian, she doesn't remember anything about what happened or what's happened in the past. She doesn't even remember you or the others. It's a miracle that she remembers me and what we are. Okay? I'm sorry but you're going to have to stay away till I can help her get stronger." With this the boy let Caden lead him away from the door.
My mind began to work in over time trying to figure out who this 'Ian' boy was and why he made this pain in my chest so excruciating. My mind did not want to work that hard and it shut down and I was forced back into the darkness…
